The Right Time to Send Out Wedding Invites
Although it may sound obvious, sending your wedding invites earlier rather than later is always better. Have all of your details organized well ahead of time to save you and your guests any potential frustration.
The right time to send out your wedding invites depends on what type of wedding you are having. For a small, intimate wedding, you can send out your invites much later than if you were having a large wedding or a destination wedding.
You should also make a point to send the invitations out much earlier if you have many guests that live very far away, especially if they are going to have to fly to your wedding. There is no exact rule that is guaranteed to ensure the best time to send out your wedding invites, but here are some factors to consider in order to find the right time for you.
First, send out all of your invitations around the same time. Your friends and family members will probably talk about the upcoming wedding, and you do not want someone to feel left out because they did not get an invite yet.
Second, when you have guests what will need to fly in for the wedding, either because they live far away or because the wedding is a destination wedding, you should consider sending out save the date cards. You can send out save the date cards well before your wedding invites. This gives the guests time to make plans, and book plane tickets if necessary.
Third, the busier the time of year, the earlier you should send the invites. If the date of your wedding falls around common vacation times or holidays, like during the summer, then you want to give your guests notice of the wedding before they make other plans. Ideally, plan for 8 months in advance.
Finally, remember that even for a small wedding, you’ll need to send the invites out well enough in advance so you allow enough time for planning after you receive all of your RSVPs. You should allow a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks for last minute planning after the guests have made their RSVPs. You should also give guests a few weeks to respond, so again, the earlier the better!
The right time to send out your wedding invites depends on what type of wedding you are having, how far your guests have to travel, and more. When in doubt, always be safe rather than sorry by being well ahead of the game. Send them 8 months ahead of time if possible, or at least 4 months ahead of time to allow for planning after you have a head count. Consider these factors and your wedding invites will go out at just the right time.
